Two students from Dutch Lane were recognized at an awards ceremony for the essays they wrote titled, “The Incredible Thing My Grandmother/Grandfather/Older Person Taught Me About Older People Is….”
Mrs. Borra and Mrs. Telesky organized a full day of programs for K-5 students presented by local author-illustrator, Kathleen Bart. There were four different presentations arranged by grade level. Kindergarten through second grade students participated in programs based on her book A Tale of Two Teddies The First Teddy Bears Tell Their True Stories. Our third through fifth grade students attended a program called Global Cultures.
On February 3, 2012, many of the staff and students wore red to school to show their support for the American Heart Association and their efforts to combat heart disease.
Dutch Lane's fourth and fifth graders were invited by Mrs. Borra to participate in a school Spelling Bee, in association with Howard Scripps National Spelling Bee, sponsored by Hofstra University.
Students enjoyed learning about the many systems that make up the human body when the Franklin Institute visited the Dutch Lane School.
All of the students at the Dutch Lane School participated in an engaging assembly program that gave them strategies for dealing with bullies.
As part of our service learning experience this year, we are again participating in the "Soles 4 Souls" program. We are collecting gently used shoes, both child and adult.
Students in Mrs. Fleschner's class read The Mitten and then participated in a variety of activities that related to this story.
Dutch Lane Kindergarten students learned to sort through a variety of authentic and interactive activities.
This past summer, students were invited to participate in Dutch Lane's Summer Reading Program, Million Dollar Readers, designed by Mrs. Borra, our literacy specialist.
